Trainer Murdoch Kelly who has only been training a couple of years saddled the 12 year old Kahuna to win this Guinness Handicap Chase in great style from the fancied Sanglote. It was the trainers first Galway Festival winner.
Kahuna who was superbly ridden by Andrew Thornton made every inch of the running and the trail blazing tactics certainly paid off a she burnt off all challenges on the way round. Third home was Jessica Harrington's Knight Legend who clearly was giving too much weight away in this.
- 1st Kahuna, M Kelly, A Thornton, 7/1
- 2nd Sanglote, E Griffin, P Townebd, 7/2
- 3rd Knight Legend, J Harrington, A Leigh, 7/1
