Day Four Race Five

Arthur Guinness Fund Novice Hurdle 2011 (2m 4f) - Winning Times for Tavern

Tavern Times was an impressive winner of the Arthur Guiness Fund Novice Hurdle as Thomas Mullins halted the Dermot Weld juggernaut at the Galway Festival.  Davy Russell always looked to be travelling well on the winner and turning for home he sent the seven-year-old clear from Weld's Endless Intrigue to win by two-and-a-half lengths.

2009 Result

As anticipated this race came down to the two favourites in the race and a direct dual between the best two jockeys around, Tony McCoy on Glenstal Abbey and Ruby Walsh on Dual Gales. For many it proved to be the best race of the week with them both coming to the last together after tracking the leader Capall Eile from the start. In the event it was Ruby Walsh who won the day having just a little more pace on the run in and giving trainer, Willie Mullins another Festival winner.

  • 1st Dual Gales, W Mullins, R Walsh, 11/4
  • 2nd Glenstal Abbey, C Swan, T McCoy, Evens Fav
  • 3rd Carsonstown Boy, C McBratney, A McNamara, 9/1
