Day Four Race Two

Guinness Summer Series Novice Chase 2011 (2m1f) - Neworleans Downs rivals in cracker

The Margaret Mullins-trained Down in Neworleans was a gallant winner of the Guinness Summer Series Novice Chase on day four of the Galway Festival.  The six-year-old stalked the long time leader Spill The Beans for the majority of the race and as they jumped the final fence jockey Danny Mullins pushed his mount on.

Paul Carberry looked ominous aboard Gracchus, but Noel Meade's five-year-old faded badly in the final furlong that left Down in Neworleans in front to win by three-and-a-half lengths at 8/1.

2009 Result

The Harry Rogers trained FIT THE COVE showed true grit to hold off hot favourite SEPARATE WAYS by half a length on the run in this Guinness Time Handicap. Rogers who has had a lot of placed horses lately will be well pleased that he has got one in the winners enclosure at last. He was given a great ride by Danny Mullins who clearly loves this Galway track.

The two went clear of the field in the last furlong but it was FIT THE COVE who stayed the better. Third was the well backed PROPINQUITY.

  • 1st Fit The Cove, H Rogers, D Mullins, 12/1
  • 2nd Separate Ways, D Marnane, C O'Donoghue, 5/2 Fav
  • 3rd Propinquity L McAteer, B Curtis, 11/2
