Day One Race Three

Claregalwayhotel EBF Maiden - Day One Race Three 2010

We change tact for the third race on the card this year at Galway with quick 7f race for punters to sink their teeth into, the race is for two-year old horses who are yet to win a race on track. Last year at Galwway there was no surprise to see Dermot Weld pick up the win with his odds-on chance Stunning View claiming the line, Weld has a great record at Galway and it would be no surprise to see him saddling some more top chances in 2010.

Weld has the favourite once again this year with A Word Apart and he looks to have a real chance for the top trainer in Galway, Tashqeel is another with a good chance and is coming in for a lot of support today and looks to go off with every chance in this eight runner field.

2009 Result

At 4/9 odds on the result was rarely in doubt and Stunning View ran a blinder to give Dermot Weld his first win of the 2009 Galway Festival. There was much speculation beforehand that the Aidan O'Brien horse, Banyan Tree had improved enough to have won this but the result was rarely in doubt as Pat Smullen always had control of the race on the winner. Banyan Tree in the event ran creditably to be second, while the Kevin Predergast horse, Zayaan stayed on to be third.

  • 1st Stunning View, D Weld, P Smullen, 4/9
  • 2nd Banyan Tree, A O'Brien, C O'Donaghue, 7/2
  • Zayaan, K Prenderghast, D McDonough, 7/1
