Charleville trained by Patrick Cody and ridden strongly by Danny Grant hosed up in this good quality handicap belying his 20/1 odds. He won by 8 lengths after taking up the running when rounding the bend. He fairly flew up the home straight not giving a glimmer of hope to any potential challengers.
Top weight Tin Town Boy ran on gamely to be second, but perhaps the unlucky horse in the race was favourite, Not til Monday who got blocked two furlongs from home and could only find room in the last half furlong to mount any sort of challenge. In the end he did well to finish third.
- 1st Charleville, P Cody, D Grant, 20/1
- 2nd Tin Town Boy, H Rogers, J Heffernan, 11/2
- 3rd Not Til Monday, D Myerscough, R Burke, 3/1 Fav
