Edward Lynam's Iron Major put in a terrific late burst to win the 7f contest under Johnny Murtagh. Footprint led from the flag fall and was still in front in the final furlong, but as the peloton closed he saw a trip pass with him Iron Major just holding on by half-a-length from Still Point.

It was the turn of the outsiders in this penultimate race of the second evening at Galway, after the Peter Maher trained, Sassy Gal came up trumps to win this seven furlong handicap. She won with odds of 20/1 with something to spare from a game If Per Chance, with Kings Bastion third and the much fancied Toufan Express fourth.
