Dermot Weld

Dermot Weld

Yet again in 2008 the Galway Festival maestro, Dermot Weld headed the top trainer list with ten winners, including a 449/1 four timer on the very first day of the Galway Festival. The Master at Rosewell also chalked up his 200th Galway Festival winner, when Lady Alicia won the Irish Sportsbook Maiden on Galway Plate day. It is why Dermot will be favourite in the Galway Festival Odds to be top trainer again. Dermot Weld in fact is a name that has become synonymous with the Galway Races, he has been the top trainer here for the past 20 years and he is certain to start favourite again this year to be top once more. Although probably disappointed at not winning the Galway Plate last year, Weld will have been well pleased with his entrant, Ansar, who pulled off a near miracle when he grabbed 3rd place, behind one of our Galway Festival tips, Oslot, trained in England by Paul Nicholls and who was ridden by Ruby Walsh.

Ansar of course is almost as well known as Weld at Galway and for a 12 year old to have achieved third place in a race that he has won twice before and had also been 4th in 2007, represented a truly fantastic trainer horse achievement. It was Ansar's last appearance at the Galway races but it is certainly not for Weld, he will have his usual army of horses at the festival and punters are advised that it will be a good tip to follow him closely in the Galway Festival 2009 betting.

Weld will have plenty of horses running this year and many will be high in the betting as possible winners. It will be important therefore to keep a wary eye on the Galway Festival odds to ensure that the best prices on Welds horses are obtained. The Galway Festival Free bet offers are an ideal method to get yourself underway on a Dermot Weld horse.
