carlton.ie/galwaycity Handicap 2011 (2m) - Cross storms to Galway success

The Thomas Mullins-trained Fosters Cross stormed to victory in Monday's Blue Riband event, the Galway City Handicap, by four lengths under a brilliant ride from Colin Motherway. 

Sent to the front early, Fosters Cross kept a steadied gallop throughout and then round the home turn upped the pace and noone could live with the nine-year-old.  Cry For The Moon got within four lengths of the winner at 12/1, but it was a mere procession from the Mullins raider, who was ultra-impressive

2009 Result

Dermot Weld was on the mark again when his top weighted Ghimaar ran a terrific race to comfortably win the First Day evening feature at Galway. Always handy, Ghimaar tracked the leaders from the very start but showed his true class after jumping the second last.

Second was Evening Rushour, with Mountain Snow staying on for third and Jump For You in fourth.
