The Galway Plate 2013 (2m 6f)

Galway Plate Betting Odds

Bob Lingo was a superb winner of the Galway Plate as under a sublime ride from Mark Walsh the Thomas Mullins-trained runner got the better of Casey Top to land the highlight of the festival.

Taking an inside path throughout the contest, Walsh was always travelling well on board the 16/1 shot and whilst the market leaders of Out Now and Blackstairmountain struggled to get involved with the front pairing it was Bob Lingo and Casey top that battled it out up the straight.

However, it was Bob Lingo that managed to eke a little bit more out of the tank in the final furlong and went on to win by five lengths with Casey Top finishing second and Blackstairmountain and Cross Appeal completing the placings of a cracking renewal.

Galway Plate 2011 Result

Blazing Tempo gave trainer Willie Mullins his first winner of the Galway Plate as the favourite prevailed in the highlight of the Galway Festival.

In an incident-packed race Wise Old Owl looked the winner turning for home as he stormed clear, but a power-packed ride from Paul Townend after the last fence sent the seven-year-old in search of John Kiely's runner.

Townend continued to get a tune out of his mount and she eventually passed Wise Old Owl in the final furlong to win by one-and-a-quarter lengths.

2010 Galway Plate Result

AP McCoy was at his brilliant best in the 2010 Galway Plate as the multiple champion jockey managed to cajole 22/1 shot Finger Onthe Pulse to victory in a pulsating finish to the blue riband event of the Galway festival.

Staying on in the closing stages, McCoy had manufactured the Tom Taaffe-trained gelding to the front over a furlong out and he stayed on well to land the spoils by half-a-length with Themoonandsixpence, Majestic Concorde and The Fonze completing the placings to a memorable renewal.

2009 Result

The Galway Plate proved to be an excellent result for the Bookmakers as neither of the two co-favourites, Roby De Cimbre or Wins Now, got in a blow. In fact it was 16/1 shot Ballyholland running the race of his life who romped home in great style to win the most prestigious race of the meeting. Trained by Colm McGratney and ridden perfectly by Andrew McNamara Ballholland was always prominent and seemed to take to the ground better than the rest. He mounted his challenge two from home and never really looked back winning by six lengths from a game Knock On The Head.

Washington Lad who finished third made a bold bid for glory three from home but could not sustain his challenge and faded on the run in. Fourth was Anothercoppercoast.
